Snowdrop Lane
No mistaking the location. This hamlet is called Little Gatcombe and consists of a number of secluded cottages dotted around the bottom of the scarp slope of the downs.

The hounds
A pen of excitable puppies were very pleased to see me. Lots of jumping up and down and yapping, out of excitement rather than territory guarding. Interestingly it's the darker ones who are doing the jumping up. Coincidence? Nearby was a horsebox with the word "hounds" painted on the back. The local hunting pack perhaps. Also nearby are these stables. Image]

Towards Little Gatcombe
A bridleway descends towards Little Gatcombe, slippery in the woodland and steeper than it looks here. Add three manic mountain bikers hurtling down and it was quite a tricky few minutes.

Bridleway junction east of Garstons
Another bridleway junction, well signposted with destinations as well as path numbers. This is on a small plateau above Gatcombe, with Garstons Down beyond.
