Mary Rose (1511), Portsmouth
The Mary Rose (launched 1511) is a carrack-type warship of the English Tudor navy of King Henry VIII. She served for 33 years in several wars against France, Scotland, and Brittany. After being substantially rebuilt in 1536, she saw her last action on 19 July 1545. She led the attack on the galleys of a French invasion fleet, but sank in the Solent, the strait north of the Isle of Wight. The wreck of the Mary Rose was located in 1971 and was raised on 11 October 1982 by the Mary Rose Trust in one of the most complex and expensive maritime salvage projects in history.

Portsmouth Dockyard (4)
This is probably although not definitely Dry Dock No.3 which just over a year after this picture was taken housed the remains of the hull of the Mary Rose. If not Dry Dock No.3 possibly No. 4 or No.5 just a few metres north of No.3. See http://www.pnbpropertytrust.org/propertymap.asp

The Mary Rose
Nobody has yet submitted a photo of the Mary Rose lying in the giant yellow steel cradle, so I thought I would submit this 30 year old photo taken by my sister. It was taken just a few months after its excavation and raising off the seabed. The picture quality isn't great as it was taken using a 110 pocket camera which had a fixed lens and used small negatives.
