Brentor Station
View SW, towards Tavistock and Plymouth; ex-London & South Western, Exeter - Okehampton - Plymouth main line. Running parallel on the right is the ex-GWR Plymouth (Tavistock Junction) - Tavistock - Lydford - Launceston line; this by-passed Brentor station and closed 31/12/62 to passengers (7/9/64 to freight). (The heavy requirements of the US Army in the War led to connections being built in 11/43 between the SR and GWR lines at both Lydford and Launceston, and these survived). From 6/5/68, the ex-LSW main lines west of Meldon Junction (Okehampton) were closed completely, including the Plymouth line as far as Bere Alston. Brentor station remains virtually unaltered as a private house. It has featured recently in the Media, this photograph being used on 21/2/14 in a BBC Breakfast TV feature about the Dawlish Wash-Out, referring to the possible reopening of the ex-LSWR main line to Plymouth.

Brentor Southern Railway station
This is the old railway station at Brentor in Devon, taken in around 1994. There were two railways here, the Southern Railway line from Lydford to Plymouth (near enough!) which ran through the station pictured here, and the Great Western line from Launceston to Plymouth. The two routes ran parallel to each other for some distance, but remained completely separate until a connection between them was established at the joint station at Lydford during the Second World War. The GWR line is out of shot to the right, but can be seen in Ben Brooksbank's photograph at http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1973099

LSWR once a bridge over the railway at Brentor
Turn left for the old station on the LSWR , this is now a private house. The road once crossed the railway by a bridge here, but now it's just an earth embankment.

LSWR former trackbed at Brentor
Looking towards Okehampton and Exeter a farm shed building has been built on part of the trackbed. The overbridge has been removed a long while ago and replaced with an embankment to carry the road. The line shut to passengers May 1968.
