The Napier Fountain, Devonport Park
A fountain built to commemorate Admiral Sir Charles Napier who lived between 1786 and 1860. Although it is supposed to be a fountain, I have never ever seen it working. Money was supposed to have been allocated for its restoration in 2005 but it does not appear to have been spent - at least not on the fountain!

The Doris Gun in Devonport Park
The history of the gun is that it was a South African weapon in the Boer War, and British servicemen transported it 800 hundred miles to their ship HMS Doris. When the ship returned to Devonport it was retained as a memorial to the sailors who died in the war and it was unveiled in the park in 1904 by Admiral E.H. Seymour. Listed grade II (list entry 1390062) as 'a most unusual Boer War memorial'.

Petanque court in Devonport Park
The game has become more popular in the UK in recent years. I do wonder what the bowls player Drake would have thought of the French version of the game being played in Plymouth?
