The Plymouth Gin Distillery
The distillery is in the city centre and has no doubt benefitted from the recent revival of popularity of the spirit. The building is listed grade II* (list entry 1386410) and the listing records several uses of the site over the centuries including as a gaol, Congregational meeting house and merchant's house, before becoming a distillery from 1793.

Black Friars Distillery, Plymouth
This is a closer look at the scene shown in Image Gin has been distilled here since 1793 but the building is much older, dating from the early 15th century. It is said to have been a Dominican Order monastery although the claim is unsubstantiated. It is also said to have been where the Pilgrim Fathers spent their last night before setting sail on the Mayflower for America.

Blackfriars Distillery, Plymouth
Despite the 1793 date over the far arch, the building has elements dating back to around 1500 when it was a merchant's house. This occupied the far end of the range, and considerable elements remain. Alterations and extensions have been made in subsequent centuries up to the 20th. It continues to operate as a distillery, now with bar/restaurant attached. Listed Grade II*.
