St. John's School from the upper playground
St. John's School was opened in Stormont Street in 1938 as replacement for a condemned 1860 building in the town centre. According to contemporary reports, the building was regarded as "a magnificent school." The pitched roof was added in 1992 after many years of trouble with the original flat roof. With the original roof, there were clear signs of art deco design and the present windows, dating from 1990, kept the appearance of the original 1938 windows. The photograph shows classroom windows and the upper playground furnished with picnic tables and markings for playground games. This building will be vacated in October 2011. It is outdated and is being replaced by a new St. John's Academy in the northern part of Perth.

The old academy, Rose Terrace
Once the Perth Academy, this classical building is Category A listed and was constructed in 1805 by Robert Reid in a classical style. The sign would suggest that it is currently looking for new tenants.

Houses in Rose Terrace
The house on the right (with the plaque between its two ground-floor windows) belonged to the Scottish relatives of that supreme arbiter of Victorian artistic and architectural taste, John Ruskin. As a young boy, Ruskin spent several summer holidays here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ruskin
