A holiday express returning from the East Coast on the Midland line north of Peterborough
View SE, towards Peterborough on the ex-Midland line from Peterborough (East and North) to Manton, Melton Mowbray, Leicester, Derby and Nottingham. The train is approaching Walton station, with the East Coast Main Line running parallel on the east side. This is the 10.37 Summer Saturday from Yarmouth (Vauxhall) to Leicester (London Road), which had until 1958 run on the more direct Midland & Great Northern route. The locomotive is LMS 4F 0-6-0 No. 44178. On the left is the large Brotherhood's factory.

King's Cross - Edinburgh express approaching Werrington Junction
View SE, towards Peterborough and London: ex-GN ECML. In 1949 still with its original plain chimney, Thompson A2/3 4-6-2 No. 60517 'Ocean Swell' (built 11/46, withdrawn 11/62) powers the 13.10 Summer Saturdays extra from King's Cross, non-stop to Grantham and due Edinburgh at 21.20.
