25301 and 25297 head a stone train south towards Peterborough. Behind the train is the industrial estate on the southwest side of the line. Also visible is the line of pylons that stride out into the countryside from Peterborough, initially following the line of the railway. Just visible in the distance on the right is Werrington Junction where the line for Spalding diverges from the Great Northern mainline.

The train is headed by LMS Folwer 3F 0-6-0T No. 47300 (built 1924 as No. 7140, withdrawn 8/63). The ECML is over on the right.

View northward, towards Grantham and the North on the ECML and to Boston and Grimsby by the Loop line from Werrington, with the ex-Midland Peterborough - Melton Mowbray etc. lines on the left. The Class F freight is headed by Gresley K3/2 2-6-0 No. 61867, built 10/25 as No. 228 (1946 No. 1867), withdrawn 11/62. Behind the crossing in the foreground is Walton station, on the Midland lines only (closed 7/12/53).

55019 approaches Peterborough with a London bound express. These Deltic locomotives, of which there were 22, were the mainstay of the east coast expresses from the mid 1960's until the HST's arrived in the 1980's. The end of terrace house on the right is in Mead Close. Behind is the industrial estate off Lincoln Road. The green fields beyond are now also an industrial estate. In the distance is Werrington Junction.

Opened in 1846 by the Midland Railway on the line from Peterborough to Leicester, this station closed to passengers in 1953 and was subsequently demolished. View north west towards Helpston and Leicester. Although photographed from the adjacent East Coast Main Line, there were never any platforms on this line.

View NW, towards Stamford, Manton and Leicester/Nottingham: ex-Midland Melton Mowbray - Peterborough line, which parallels on the west side the ER ECML into Peterborough for about five miles - making a splendid stretch for train-watching. The 12.42 stopping train from Leicester London Road is headed by ex-Midland Fowler 4F 0-6-0 No. 43965 (withdrawn 12/59). Walton station, visible in the distance, served the Midland line only and was closed on 7/12/53.

31318 heads a Birmingham service north from Peterborough towards Werrington Junction past the site of the Marholm Road level crossing. The crossing had been removed some years previously. A section of the roadway, complete with white centre lines is visible between the tracks in front of the cabin. A new brick wall and white fence have replaced the gates. On the right of the picture is the industrial estate. Visible in the distance is the bridge carrying the A47 over the railway.

View NW towards Grantham on the ECML, also Boston and Grimsby from Werrington Junction 1 - 2 miles ahead. (The ex-Midland line to Stamford, Melton Mowbray and Leicester/Nottingham is parallel off to the left, with its Walton station just out of sight. The locomotive is Gresley A3 Pacific No. 60110 'Robert the Devil', which was built 7/23 as GNR No. 179 (one of the original Gresley A1 class), running as LNER No. 4479 'Robert the Devil' until renumbered in 1946 as No. 110, becoming BR No. 60110. It survived until 5/63, having in the meantime been rebuilt to Class A3 in 8/42, and recently (5/59) acquired a double-chimney.
