Longthorpe Tower, Peterborough
Originally part of medieval fortifications some 90 metres west of St Botolph's Church. Now an English Heritage property, it displays one of the most complete and important sets of 14th-century domestic wall paintings in northern Europe. This varied 'spiritual encyclopedia' of worldly and religious subjects including the Wheel of Life, the Nativity and King David. Listed in the Peterborough Local Plan, Appendix VIII as a scheduled monument - 27108.

The gates to Tower House, number 333 Thorpe Road.
Longthorpe is a village in the city of Peterborough, some 2 miles west of the city centre. A Roman fort was established here in the 1st century covering 27 acres, later replaced by another fort of 11 acres. The village is home to Longthorpe Tower, a 14th-century tower and fortified manor house, it contains the finest and most complete set of domestic paintings of the period in northern Europe.

Longthorpe Tower
Longthorpe Tower was built by Robert Thorpe, a lawyer, between about 1290 and 1300. Towers like this are rare in southern England, they tend to more common in the north, particular on the border with Scotland. On the first floor the tower contains some of the finest medieval wall painting to be found in the country, they date from around 1330. The building is in the care of English Heretiage.
