Looking down from West Head Road
The road follows a slight ridge, being just above sea level. This might be due to it being an old river bed. After drainage the sediments under the river contract less than the surrounding marsh, leaving them as a ridge.

Not all roads in the fens are dead straight. This one is still raised above the surrounding fields, though.

St Peter's church in Stowbridge - view east
