River Nene
The only movement on the tranquil River Nene is a breeze ruffling the surface of the water. The Yellow Water-lilies were just too far away from the water's edge to get a close-up of a flower without falling into the river!

Steam loco on the Nene Valley Railway
"Ring Haw", a Hunslet 0-6-0ST (saddle tank) engine, approaches Orton Mere station on the Nene Valley Railway (NVR). The locomotive (No. 1982) was built in Leeds in 1940 and was used at Nassington Quarry until 1970, when it was acquired by the North Norfolk Railway (NNR). It was on loan to the NVR when this image was taken. The NVR was opened by the Peterborough Railway Society (PRS) in 1974. It began operating passenger services in June 1977 and now ranks as one of the United Kingdom's leading heritage railways. The seven-and-a-half-mile route runs between Peterborough Nene Valley and Yarwell Junction. The NVR is a popular venue for location filming and has appeared in the James Bond movies "Octopussy" and "GoldenEye" and the BBC television drama series "Secret Army" and "Casualty" amongst others.
