Church of St. Augustine, Woodston, Peterborough
A Grade 1-listed building, the Church of St. Augustine of Canterbury is located on Oundle Road in the Woodston area of Peterborough. It dates back more than 1,000 years, having been mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, with various additions in the 13th, 14th and 19th centuries. St. Augustine's was sadly closed to worship in 2022 and placed on Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register owing to its poor state of repair and the lack of funds required to renovate the building, which were estimated at around £300,000. The Diocese of Ely announced in October 2025, however, that the church was being acquired by the Romanian Orthodox Church, which planned to renovate the building and allow its use for community events. Under the arrangement with the diocese, the church would remain available to the Church of England for burials and school assemblies.
