Clough's Cross Bridge near Parson Drove
This double bridge joins Cambridgeshire to Lincolnshire. At this point the North Level Main Drain splits into two. The Main Drain passing under the two arches on the left and another drain, New South Eau, joints via the two arches on the right. There is a tee junction half way over the bridge which gives access to the buildings in the distance.
The bridge was completed in 1834 along with a new 8 mile straight drain called the North Level Main Drain, see https://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=103636884 to the recently straightened River Nene at Foul Anchor. The capacity of the new drain was 6 times greater than the meandering Old Shire Drain which it replaced. The old drain still flows through Tydd St Giles, see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1686026
The works were overseen by Sir John Rennie and civil engineer Thomas Pear III of Wisbech.
