Estate footpath
Whatever the forgotten rustic significance of this path when this was grazing land, the footpath remained as a legal right of way when the houses were being built, and here it is, a fossilised bit of communication infrastructure from a vanished age.

The end of Godiva Crescent
A quiet loop of the Westfield estate with Bungalows and larger detached houses. The houses are now overshadowed by the 3-storey terraces built on the former market garden that was once behind them.

Bungalows and footpath
These are Parker-built bungalows (not all of them in Godiva Crescent are to this style).
Godiva Crescent is crossed by a footpath which marked the boundary of the old West Field, the former shared rotation field system that was built on in the 1960s. The footpath aligns with the edge of the former market garden owned by Ted Moody ("the glasshouses") which is now an estate of 21st century houses.

Godiva Crescent
Named for the countess of Mercia, Godiva, mother of Hereward the Wake, and an 11th century inhabitant of Bourne.
Built in the 1960s by Parker Bros, they lack the tile-hung frontage of the larger homes on the estate, but have the typical steel-pole-porch.

Discreet, but modern
Two of the houses in Godiva Crescent have an attractive modern coloured render finish over the brickwork, but both of them are obscured somewhat by excellent garden trees.

Warning notice
The new substation (Image]) carries this warning notice about SF6, whereas the old one carried a warning notice about PCBs (Image])
SF6, Sulphur Hexaflouride, is not particularly dangerous. It is used as an insulating gas in high voltage switchgear. But in the event of a fire the combusion products of SF6 can be very nasty indeed, much like the substances used as gas weapons in the first world war.
I don't think there is any cause for concern here. The volume will be small, and in the event of a fire I would have thought the other combustion products would be just as worrying.
