Exeter Gardens at Bourne, Lincolnshire
The development of Bourne House in West Street into apartments for old people in 1989 also included the building of several bungalows in the grounds at the rear in what has now become Exeter Gardens.

Tin Lane
Tin lane is a small access road to the rear of the Police station from Exeter street, the tarmacked surface seen curving round here. It also gives access to some semi-detached houses which have 'West Street' numbers.
The gravel road from which this picture is taken is a separate, unnamed affair leading to some other houses which have Burghley Street numbers.

I suspect that this is where the name 'Tin Lane' comes from - a sort of double pun on the police.

Dovecote Detail
This faux dovecote makes an unusual feature on the end elevation of a house in Tin Lane.
Note that, although located in Tin Lane, this house's postal address is in Burghley Street (!)

Last house in Burghley Street
No. 64 is at the extreme end of the unmetalled road that is the hidden part of Burghley Street, that is also known as Tin Lane.

Tin Lane
The sign at the entrance to Tin Lane, at the junction of Burghley and Exeter Street.
Originally Burghley Street continued to the West here, as an unadopted road, but when the police station was built in the 1960s, along with some police houses, a paved road was laid to the rear. Although these new houses had addresses in West Street, this little road became known as Tin Lane.

Bourne Police station: Above the door
It seems that the idea of a "Police Station" is old fashioned, and has been replaced by a "Police office". There is a small counter inside which is occasionally manned, more so than 30 years ago, but frequently you find yourself standing outside these doors talking on a wall-mounted telephone to the control room in Nettleham. They have trouble even working out where Bourne is.
