The Croft at Bourne, Lincolnshire
This imposing property standing in its own grounds and approached from the main North Road by a driveway was built by a local corn merchant in 1922 and remained a family home until 2004 when a planning controversy began over proposals to build houses on the surrounding meadowland. The dispute was settled in 2009 when developers began work on an estate of 68 bungalows for the over-fifties, now almost complete, while The Croft has been refurbished for use as a community centre but is often wrongly referred to by the developers as “the old manor house” although it has no connection whatsoever with either of Bourne’s two ancient manors.

Historic gateway in North Road, Bourne, Lincolnshire
The stone gateway and wrought iron gates are all that remain of a substantial William and Mary period mansion at No 20 North Road which was demolished in 1990 to make way for the present Maple Gardens housing development.
