Sculpture: Cow
This artwork, made from recycled wooden pallets and motorcycle tyres, is part of Paisley's Animal Recycled Sculpture Trail, which was created by local artist Kevin Cantwell. The cow sculpture commemorates, in particular, the weekly cattle market that was held on Fridays in November and December in nearby Storie Street. The area in which the sculpture stands is shown on the left in Image, though it was not present when that picture was taken.

University of the West of Scotland, Paisley campus
The main entrance of the Paisley campus of the University of the West of Scotland, seen across High Street. UWS was formed in 2007 in a merger of Paisley University and Bell College in Hamilton. UWS's predecessor institutions reach back to 1897. It also has campuses in Ayr, Dumfries and London, and has a student body of about 15000. Paisley campus is located in the town centre and is very compact, with interconnected buildings containing the various Schools surrounded by student accommodation around the perimeter. Perhaps surprisingly, the subject of physics is part of the School of Engineering and Computing rather than the School of Science (and Sport). The statue in front of the building commemorates John Knox Witherspoon (1723-94), a Presbyterian minister in Paisley who emigrated to New Jersey to become president of the College of New Jersey in Princeton and a member of the Continental Congress, the body established by the thirteen British colonies which declared independence in 1776.
