Old Barn. Ascott Park
Protected now by a modern roof, this is an old building still in use although structurally in poor repair now. For some reason the map doesn't mark these buildings which are to the north of the footpath.

Shed at Ascott Park
What should I call this? Not a barn, because it has windows. It probably used to be a farm office, but may now be just used for storage given the blocked out windows. Shakespeare's Way passes by.

Octagonal buildings, Ascott Park
I believe the nearer one to be an icehouse and the other one, which has a tiled roof, to be a dovecote.

Barn at Ascott Farm
I do love barns on staddle stones. This one appears to be nearing the end of its life, thought, unless some remedial work is started immediately. Shakespeare's Way heads left here, towards Chalgrove.

Ascott Park
This house, together with a few farm buildings and the small octagonal structures in a nearby field are all that remains of the medieval village of Ascott. Sir William "The Splendid" Dormer built a manor house here which burnt down http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.18033 There are substantial earthworks beside the house, and a series of fishponds in a nearby wood. The original gateposts still stand, incorporated in a field wall, and some avenues of now rapidly ageing trees. Otherwise, what would at one time have been a small country house and park has reverted to farmland. This is a view of the house from a semi derelict field containing various items of agricultural junk such as this antique here. Looks like a Turnip Gun or something.
