The Octagonal Windmill at Wheatley
At Windmill Lane, Wheatley. Owned by the Cripps family for 150 years. Restored 2007 : http://www.wheatleymill.co.uk/ . Only the top of a tower mill revolves. The tower, being made of stone, means the windmill is less likely to be damaged by fire.

Windmill Lane, Wheatley
For some reason Windmill Lane degenerates into a track for a few hundred metres between two surfaced sections. The windmill is quite attractive but hard to do justice to in a picture due to all the foliage around it.

Wheatley windmill - setting sail
Finishing off setting the cloth on the last of the four common sails. The mill was then set in motion but was very lively in the breeze and with the stones out of gear. It could probably have used a bit less cloth set. The mill has not long been restored and the volunteers are still finding their way.

A glimpse of Wheatley Mill
The sail cloths are installed for National Mills Weekend 2017. However, the sails were running away in gusty conditions without the load from the grinding stones and a few tugs on the brake brought the mill to a stop. This highlights the difference between traditional and patent sails where the area of sail can be reduced by adjusting the angle of the flaps.
