St. Mary's church
The church is apparently the one that Thomas Hardy used as the model for Marygreen church in "Jude the Obscure". But Jude's surname was Fawley, so did Hardy name his character after the village or have Hardy scholars subsequently put two and two together to make five? The former probably, because Hardy's grandmother was born in the village so he would have known the place and used it as a location for the novel, transferring the name from the village to the character. The church is Victorian, built in 1866 by GE Street.
