Oxford (GWR) Locomotive Yard
View northward of the Yard, beside the main line on the west side just north of Oxford main (ex-Great Western) Station; the Shed is off to the left. This Depot (in the London District and coded 81F by BR) was quite small but was unique - in early BR days after the LMS Shed at Rewley Road closed in 12/50 - in that it serviced locomotives from all of the Big Four Groups; an LMS and an LNE locomotive are visible at the end of the first row in the photograph. Oxford Depot's allocation (58 steam locomotives and 3 ex-GW Diesel rail-cars) covered main-line as well as local duties, the steam engines comprising:- 18 4-6-0s, 1 4-4-0, 4 2-6-0s, 1 2-8-0, 1 0-6-0, 4 2-8-2Ts, 7 2-6-2Ts, 15 0-6-0Ts and 5 0-4-2Ts, also 2 ex-War Department 2-8-0s. The Depot was closed on 3/1/66, but remained as a refuelling point for Diesels.

Housing on Roger Dudman Way
Viewed from a train approaching Oxford station. A Council planning document available online explains that Roger Dudman Way is a 1.2ha brownfield site occupying the location of former railway sidings Image Construction of post-graduate student accommodation started in the early 2000s and an application for more such housing was approved in 2013. This is 'B' block, so I presume part of the earlier phase of development. See also Image

Bridge leading off Thames towpath, north of Four Rivers
To the east of the Thames towpath, the small backwater Fiddlers Island Stream runs parallel to the main river: this bridge leads off the towpath and over Fiddlers Island Stream, into the new housing developments along Roger Dudman Way.

Willow by the Thames
A line of willows runs along the west bank of the river. Taken from the Thames Path as it follows a narrow piece of land between Fiddler's Island Stream and the river.

Sidings north of Oxford station
There are sidings both sides of the main line north of Oxford. Those on the west side seem to be the most used by terminating passenger trains. Here, 165029, one of the first 'Networker' trains seen soon after delivery, along with a class 47 loco. Judging from aerial photos, part of the allotments beyond the sidings has now been built on as light industrial units.
