Heron Mill Hollinwood Oldham
Designed by architect P.S.Stott Heron mill was built in 1905 by the Heron Mill Company Ltd.
Taken over in the 1930s by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation when "cotton was king" it ceased production in 1960.
From 1961 it was and occupied by Courtaulds Ltd as offices and warehouse with some experimental manufacture until 1994.

Hollinwood - Heron Mill
Cotton spinning mill built 1905. Architect was P S Stott and there were 105,000 spindles turned by a 1400 horsepower inverted vertical cross compound steam engine by G Saxon of Openshaw. The engine house projects on the right and I believe the car park is the infilled lodge (cooling pond). The edge of Brook no. 2 is seen on the extreme right.

Heron Mill, Hollinwood - stair tower
Former cotton spinning mill built 1905. Architect was P S Stott and there were 105,000 spindles turned by a 1400 horsepower inverted vertical cross compound steam engine by G Saxon of Openshaw. The decorative features on the stair tower adds some relief to a rather monolithic red brick building. Different architects also varied the style of their decoration.
