Designed by architect P.S.Stott Heron mill was built in 1905 by the Heron Mill Company Ltd. Taken over in the 1930s by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation when "cotton was king" it ceased production in 1960. From 1961 it was and occupied by Courtaulds Ltd as offices and warehouse with some experimental manufacture until 1994.
