Now that canal has been restored and the Ashton Canal continues in a tunnel under the Asda supermarket.

Cavendish Mill, Ashton-under-Lyne
Viewed from the train; the former spinning mill dating from 1885 has now been converted to apartments. The architects were Potts, Pickup and Dixon of Oldham and its grade 2* listing (list entry 1067948) is given for being the earliest building in Ashton, and one of the first in the world, to use concrete floors on steel girders rather than brick arches.
