Ellenroad Ring Mill
Does what it says on the tin! These old photographs of long gone mills make me misty-eyed. I wish I had taken a lot, lot more.

Ellenroad Ring Mill, Newhey
Up for sale and closed up. The only parts to survive are the engine house, boiler house, pump room and chimney. The rest is history. This led to a "get off my land" moment with a bare-chested youth. The picture was worth it though.

Ellenroad Ring Mill
Built as a mule spinning mill with a four cylinder triple expansion engine. It suffered an horrendous fire and was rebuilt in 1921 as a ring spinning mill. That required more power and the engine was rebuilt as a more powerful twin tandem with about 2,500 horsepower.

Victoria & Alexandra
This is a view taken in front of the driving floor. The governor on the right controls the speed of the engine through the cut-off valve gear on the high-pressure cylinders. Steam pressure and vacuum gauges can be seen in the centre with the flywheel behind. This is two images stitched together to give a panoramic view of the two engines Victoria & Alexandra.
