Gristlehurst Lane
This is a bridleway that runs generally westwards between Top o' th' Wood on the B6222 and Birtle Road at Birtle. It can be a bit muddy when it has rained almost every day this summer.

This bridleway leads northwards from the B6222 at Top o' th' Wood. Not much of it is motorable, but on foot, or on a bicycle or horse, you could probably reach Birtle.

Lancashire: The B6222 at Top o' the' Wood
There is an excellent bus service along the B6222 from either end, Bury or Rochdale, although some buses (like this 475 destined for Heywood) do not make the through journey. This was never a through tram line, but for many years it was the No 19 bus route, jointly operated by Bury Corporation with its light green double deckers, and Rochdale Corporation with similar buses in royal blue and cream.
