The Welsh Harp reservoir, West Hendon
Part of the River Brent, this was flooded to provide water for the local area. It is now also a nature reserve for rare birds.

Seagulls at the Welsh Harp reservoir
Also known as Brent Reservoir, the reservoir takes its name from the former nearby Welsh Harp pub. The reservoir is passed on the Capital Ring route on the way to or from Hendon.

Ringside seat for Wembley
You might not be able to see the game (Wembley Stadium is visible at the far end of the reservoir), but what a seat! Secluded spot for watching the wildlife. You might be honored to meet a fox in the daylight, like me - but I just wasn't quick enough with the camera.

Brent Reservoir
Seen from Cool Oak Lane bridge, with swans gathered on a pleasant spring evening to enjoy some food, the reservoir is commonly known as The Welsh Harp - reputedly a name taken from a nearby public house which has subsequently closed. The Reservoir was built in 1834/5 to provide water for the Grand Union Canal. It is fed by the River Brent (which flows in to the left of centre in this view) and the Silk Stream. The reservoir is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Fuller details are available on Wikipedia.

Cool Oak Bridge
The last time I took a photo from this (narrow) bridge Image, an impatient driver honked his horn aggressively as he'd had to slow down to pass by. This side of Brent Reservoir is a much better place to take a picture from.
