DB Schenker class 66, 66012, crosses the fast lines of the Midland mainline on the freight lines before descending to join the slow lines for its onward journey. The service is the 6F93 Castle Cement Churchyard Siding (near Kings Cross) to Ketton Ward Siding cement empties. Running through early at 11:24, it will be held for its path at the red signal ahead until 11:40. Beyond the locomotive in the centre a Class 377 can be seen on the fast lines running from Brighton to Bedford. On the bottom right, the overhead wire of the down (northbound) slow line is visible. On the right of the photo is the M1 Motorway.

DB Schenker class 67's 67016 and 67020 travel northbound with a railhead treatment train. These trains are part of the war against 'leaves on the track' and other conditions that reduce grip for trains during the autumn and winter period. There's no sign of spray from the wagons so I guess this is an early season test run. Using two locomotives allows for a swift reversal of the train as and when required - important as these trains have to fit in between the passenger services they are preparing the rail surfaces for (lightweight electric units are particularly susceptible to wheelslip - this lines class 319's especially!)

Hidden amongst the foliage a southbound train looks to be running on a single track railway. But Silkstream Junction is where a six track mainline shrinks down to four tracks and the southbound slow line is separated from the northbound slow line to allow the freight tracks to join via a flyover which crosses the fast tracks. This is First Capital Connect's Thameslink Class 319, 319370, on a St. Albans to Sutton via Wimbledon service. The trees are just starting to take on autumn colours. I doubt that the passengers are really aware of the adjacent M1 motorway as they pass through this shortly lived sylvan setting - next stop Hendon, which will bring them back to reality ;-)

Colindeep was the alternative name for Colindale but once the station was built the choice was made.
