Match Day Traffic
Cars and coaches mingle at Staples Corner on the day of the 2012 Carling Cup Final at Wembley. A large number of the vehicles coming off the motorway slip road contained Liverpool FC fans. Coaches on their way to Wembley passed through at a rate of 1 every 3 minutes between 11:45 and 12:30 (not including regular scheduled services by Greenline and National Express). The Liverpool Team Coach was one of those that passed in that time period.

M1 Motorway: Junction 1 & A406 North Circular Road
The southern end of the southbound carriageway of the motorway is here at its junction with the A406 North Circular Road, or to be more prescise it is where the white coach is coming down the hill in the distance. The road in the foreground is on the ground level roundabout of the A406.

The M1 starts here
Entrance from Staples Corner roundabout to the northbound M1. The elevated road in the background is the more recent access direct from the eastern side of Staples Corner avoiding the roundabout. This was the final southern extension of the M1, opened as late as 1977. Had plans from the 1960s been realised, the M1 would have continued to a motorway box around central London similar to Paris' Peripherique.

Saturday Evening Traffic
Traffic queues at Staples Corner to join the A406 North Circular road from the southbound A5 Edgware Road. Volumes are probably enhanced by the approach of Christmas and the proximity of Brent Cross shopping centre. Behind is the flyover carrying through A5 traffic. The A406 through traffic is passing above me on a flyover which, in turn, is providing me with some shelter from the rain. The car dealer on the right is one of many on this part of the A5.
