Finchley Road, Hampstead
I can trace my entire life along Finchley Road and have a dedicated photo group for it online. I worked there for a short time in 1976 by Henlys Corner, and again in Temple Fortune from 1992-7. I also worked in Swiss Cottage Market in 1980-1, and in the Community Centre next to it from 1990-3. My friend lived opposite Finchley Road Station throughout the 70s where I spent a lot of time, went to a club near this spot in the mid 70s, spent a week in the Arts Centre in 1972 on a printing course, had my original doctor's surgery in Temple Fortune in the 60s to 80s, and got the bus home every school day outside Golders Green station from 1969 to 1976.

Midland Mainline
Taken from the Finchley Road, a southbound Midland Mainline train approaches the tunnel that will take it under Hampstead. In the background a northbound Bedford semi-fast is about to pass under the North London Line. These are the fast lines. The slow lines curve to the right and use a separate tunnel on the opposite side of the brick ramp on the right of the photo. The Brick Ramp is the last remnant of Finchley road (Midland) station, which closed in 1927 and was finally demolished in 2003. This photo would have been impossible a few years ago as there were shops, known as Midland Parade, over the tunnel entrance, adjoining the old station building. The area to the left, containing Homebase and parking for the O2 centre was once railway yards.
