Stanbury Court, Haverstock Hill
After the flush of development in the late 1900s on the Chalcot Estate there was virtually no new building during the 1920s but large blocks of flats were erected during the 1930s, despite protests by Hampstead council and the Ratepayers' Association that there were already far too many flats in the borough. An application to build flats on the corner of Haverstock Hill and England's Lane was made in 1936, although apparently they were not built until 1947. This seems surprising as the style of these flats is distinctly Art Deco, See Image The building on the left is the Sir Richard Steele, see Image for information.

Steeles Village
Taking its name from the 'Sir Richard Steele' public house, the area at the lower end of Haverstock Hill has been undergoing a rebranding exercise since 2011. The idea is to attract some of those visitors to nearby Belsize Park and Camden Market.

Shops on Haverstock Hill, NW3
This area of Haverstock Hill is re-inventing itself as Steele's Village after Sir Richard Steele, the essayist and co-founder of "The Spectator", who stayed in one of the only houses on the Chalcot Estate in 1712 to evade his creditors. The cottage was subsequently renamed Steele's Cottage. The Cottage was demolished in 1867 and replaced by 1870 by a 'very respectable row of shops' in Haverstock Hill and by the new Steele's Road which was pushed through from Haverstock Hill to Fellows Road. Richard Steele was obviously well thought of in the area as at the end of these shops you can see the public house named after him, see Image
