Local shop in Hampstead
Little mini-market below a block of flats in New End Square, popular as a place to pick up a few essentials or a newspaper and even to stop for a coffee in this residential area east of High Street. Behind can be seen the spire of Christ Church.

Old stone tablet, New End
Very difficult to decipher owing to erosion but the inscription relates to the Hampstead Provident Dispensary established here in 1853, funded by money collected in local churches and chapels in thanksgiving for the parish's escape from the 'visitation of cholera' in 1849. The building also housed a soup kitchen for the poor. The inscription ends 'He shall deliver thee from the noisome pestilence'.

Flowers on the street
Lovingly cared-for bijou dwelling places are a feature of Hampstead's back lanes and alleys where pets and flowerpots go unmolested - for the most part. The green bag is part of Camden's recycling collection service for glass and plastic.

The artist moved to Hampstead during WW1 and used these premises in New End Square. He was a conscientous objector and it is said that the wounded soldiers he saw at the annual fair on Hampstead Heath inspired his painting Merry-Go-Round, see http://www.tate.org.uk/servlet/ViewWork?workid=5130 There is a plaque on the left.
