True Buddha Temple, 265 Willesden Lane, Willesden Green
This building was formerly a Welsh boys school which, in the mid-1990's, was converted to its present use as a Buddhist temple. Like most others, the Buddhist faith has many strands. The True Buddha school is quite recent, having been formed in the mid-1980's by Sheng-Yen Lu, who was born in 1945 in Taiwan. As well as being essentially a Buddhist sect, it is strongly influenced by Taoist strands of thought. There are about 35 major temples, and around 5 million followers around the world. Sheng-Yen Lu is the Grand Master, and is apparently revered by his students as a Living Buddha, Lian-Shen. Image Image
