Pioneer LMS Diesel on St Pancras - Manchester express near Cricklewood
View SE, towards St Pancras on Midland Main Line at Watling Street Junction, south of Cricklewood. No. 10000 was the first British main-line Diesel locomotive, built at Derby LMS Works with English-Electric engines and transmission: it was a 1,600hp 1-C0-Co-1 diesel-electric, soon joined in 7/48 by another, No. 10001. From 15/3/48 No. 10000 worked regularly for a week between Derby and Manchester Central and here (on 24/4/48) had just begun running two return trips between Derby and St Pancras, this being the 14.15 St Pancras - Manchester express.
