York Gate, Marylebone, NW1
On the other side of Marylebone Road (the A501), beyond the fully-opened York Gates, sits St Marylebone Church. This is fourth such Anglican church in this locality. Its foundation stone was laid in July 1813 and it was only when it was almost complete that it was decided that it should serve as the parish church. Here, on its north front, and based on the Pantheon in Rome, the Corinthian portico can be seen. The steeple rises about 120 feet (37 m) above ground level. The building work was completed in 1817. The corner of the Royal Academy of Music is just visible too, on the left. The York Bridge entrance into Regent's Park lies behind the photographer.
