Wembley: IKEA home furnishings store
Ever wondered where the name IKEA came from? Well, it's the initials of the Swedish founder, Ingvar Kamprad, plus the initial letter of the farm where he lived, Elmtaryd, plus the initial letter of the village that Elmtaryd was in, Agunnaryd. Another utterly useless fact is that the company sold, amongst other things, nylon stockings, before it started selling furniture. This store, more formally known as London (Brent Park), was the second one to be opened in the UK, in 1988, with a floor area of about 31,000 square metres. The view was taken from the rooftop car park with the access ramp visible in the foreground. The Wembley Stadium arch is visible in the distance left.

Ikea, Wembley
Packed to the doors on a Sunday afternoon with huge quantities of antique-stained pine and birch-veneered particle board with strange Scandinavian names being acquired for living rooms all over North London and beyond.

Probably at their best at night. I was just going past and thought there's a photo waiting to be taken.

McDonald's on the North Circular, Neasden
Like so many others this used to be a pub but has long since been taken over. Unlike others in the area this appears to be open 24 hours a day, they certainly used to be closed by 10pm when I used to go there.

The golden arches, Neasden
There are two sets of golden arches in Neasden now, the one I took in the 80s soon after it was built, and this one converted from a pub. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3185780
