Melton Constable M&GN School
Melton Constable was the engineering centre of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway, and the company built houses, an elementary school and a secondary school for the workers and their families.

Village sign
A reminder that this was once an important railway centre with a railway works, yard and loco shed. All this shut down by the mid 60s now it's a long way to the nearest railway.

War Memorial and former Elementary School

Former School Premises - Melton Constable, Norfolk
The war memorial is also situated on this site.
Initially the Public Elementary School which was built in 1896. The cost was funded jointly by Lord Hastings and the Railway Company. It was enlarged twice, in 1900 and 1906.to accommodate 320 children ( mixed and infants).
The school closed in 1984 and converted to flats.
