170273 on the Norwich to Cambridge service
Stopping at Wymondham on its way to Cambridge on a direct service that seems very popular. The station was built in 1845 and has changed little throughout the years.

Beauty Salon at Wymondham Station
Despite being an unstaffed station, the station buildings at Wymondham have been put to various commercial uses. See http://www.wymondham-station.com/index.php?f=data_nailway_beauty_salon&a=0 for further details at the Wymondham Station website.

Wymondham station sign
This sign is at the station in an enthusiast's garden. The Forncett branch (and trains to Ipswich) is no longer possible due to the line closing.
However Dereham can be reached by walking to the nearby Abbey station.
King's Lynn is inaccessible due to Dereham to King's Lynn line closing, plus the M&GN line from Melton Constable to King's Lynn closing together with the Wells to King's Lynn line closing.
Fakenham may be reached in years to come with the restoration of the Mid Norfolk railway planned.

Waiting for the train
I was waiting for the next train from Cambridge to Norwich. The station although very nice for all things old does lack a clock and TV screens. There is one TV screen that can be seen in the picture but not one on platform two.

Train passing through Wymondham Station
At the southern end of Wymondham Station a footbridge connects the two platforms. This High Speed Train was returning to St Pancras International Station from Norwich and was a charity charter, which had visited the Mid Norfolk Railway earlier in the day. This train was named the "Mid-Norfolk Marauder" and is passing the connection to the Mid Norfolk Railway, which can be seen on the other track beyond the end of the platform.

Footbridge at Wymondham Station
This footbridge not only allows access between platforms but also access to the area beyond the south side of the station. On the right can be seen points controlling access to the Mid Norfolk Railway.

Wymondham Station
At first glance it would be easy to think that this immaculately-kept station was part of a heritage railway, but in fact it is a stop on the Ely - Norwich line. In recent years the service here has been enhanced with an hourly Cambridge - Norwich service. A restaurant/cafe occupies the main station buildings, currently trading under the name 'Station Bistro'.
