Old Lakenham was completely swamped by new estate housing after WWII, but there are still a few houses from the old village which survive.

The former children's home on Sandy Lane has recently been converted into a new housing development, called Bishop Elmham Court.

This building was a local authority children's home, when the Sandy Lane estate was built after WWII. In the 1990s it closed, and became a Youth Service Base. It has been closed again in the past few months.

De Berney Close is an infill small development at the corner of Sandy Lane opposite the general store, next door to the closed down children's home. It replaces a yard of lockup garages which were vandalised on occasion as they ere not overlooked from the road.

Incredible as it may seem, some people actually celebrated losing their right of free movement, and that we will in all likelihood be getting poorer, by flying the Union Jack on Brexit Day, the day after the day the UK left the EU on 31 January 2020. If you do want to speak whatever is your mother tongue of the country you came from then we suggest you return to that place and return your flat to the council so they can let British people live here and we can return to what was normality before you infected this once great island. ...
