Wetherspoons pub located at the railway station end of Cambrian Road. John Wallace Linton was a native of Malpas, Newport who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross in 1943. Commander Linton's submarine, HMS Turbulent, was presumed sunk by enemy action in the Mediterranean in March 1943 having wreaked havoc with enemy shipping for many months previously. All 69 members of the crew were lost. Commander Linton's VC was awarded for sustained bravery and persistence rather than for an individual act of heroism. Viewed from Newport railway station in early April 2014. Located on the site of the demolished Cambrian Retail Centre, the new Queensway office block is being fitted out internally in preparation for scheduled opening in autumn 2014. A major occupier of the building will be Admiral Insurance.
