The Old Church, Penallt
In a commanding position overlooking the peerless Wye valley, built on a steep slope and what seems like miles from anywhere, this wonderful little building is well worth seeking out. Victorian restoration was sensitive, thankfully. The original dedication was to St Mary, I believe.

Penallt church is situated high on the hillside above the River Wye about a mile north of the village. The church was restored on 1887 but parts date back to the 12th Century. The churchyard cross dates from the 15th Century date.

The Old Church Penallt - interior
The view is of the altar end. Note the ancient parish chest at the right of the picture - it's hewn from a tree trunk - see Image Being a very small church, with no vestry, the register is signed on the altar after a marriage ceremony.
