Derwen van, Risca Road, Newport
Part of the Seren Group, Derwen provides housing for older people and housing-related support to residents who need additional help. Derwen offers a variety of housing types, including Independent Living, Sheltered Living and Extra Care, in the city of Newport and in Monmouthshire and Caerphilly. In April 2014 Newport Housing Trust joined the Pobl Group under the new name of Derwen, the first dedicated older persons' Housing Association in Wales. The older persons' housing stock was transferred from Charter Housing to Derwen.

Late Victorian brick in a Risca Road wall, Newport
The brick is stamped JOSEPH HAMBLET 1893 WEST BROMWICH. Founded in West Bromwich in 1851, Joseph Hamblet brickworks were one of the largest producers of the famous Staffordshire blue bricks.
