Some maps name the street as Station Street, but the street name sign shows Railway Street.

Chambers Dictionary states that pelican in this context is adapted from pedestrian light controlled crossing. Arrows painted on the road surface show that all vehicles must turn left ahead into the B4591 Queensway.

Newport: traffic lights for buses on Queensway
The westbound carriageway of Image comprises two lanes - a bus lane and a standard lane. Here, the buses are given priority by the mainline lights turning red and the bus-lane lights going green. A bus had just passed as I took this picture, so the amber light can just be seen as it goes out.
The symbol is a single-axled half-length bus, a compromise to fit the available space.
