Octopus Roundabout
Looking towards the southern end of Lower Dock Street and showing the contrast between Victorian and 21st century architecture. An appraisal of the Lower Dock Street Conservation Area made in the 1990s described these properties as "a fine group of early Victorian, three storey buildings, originally with stuccoed elevations…..This group forms an important gateway feature when entering the Conservation Area from the south."

HM Passport Office, Newport
The old passport office was in the city centre, close to the bus station and a few minutes' walk from the railway station. HM Passport Office is now in Nexus House, on the corner of Lower Dock Street and Usk Way. It is about a kilometre from the site of the former office, so not conveniently placed for those arriving in Newport by bus or train. No doubt local taxi drivers are happy with the extra business...
