Corner of Skinner Street and Upper Dock Street, Newport
Skinner Street is on the left. Formerly, Upper Dock Street was named Dock Street.
It was renamed after the building of John Frost Square and the Kingsway Centre in the 1960s obliterated the central part of Dock Street. The southern section of Dock Street was renamed Lower Dock Street.

G.M.Music, Newport
Musical instrument specialists located on Upper Dock Street, close to the junction with Skinner Street.
G.M. Music started in Newport in 1974 in the newly-built Kingsway Centre.
In the early days they sold mainly rock&roll equipment such as guitars and amps. As business expanded, they opened a store in Wharton Street, Cardiff in 1984. Meanwhile, their Newport premises were no longer suitable, because of specialisation in P.A and drums, so they moved to these premises in Upper Dock Street. They now supply a full range of educational and orchestral instruments.

Market Square, Newport
Though not yet named on maps, the area adjacent to the Upper Dock Street side of Newport's central market http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1767707 is now referred to by the city council and bus companies as Market Square.
In addition to the 31 bus bays in the nearby central bus station, these bus stops are shared by Stagecoach, two of whose blue-fronted multi-coloured buses are waiting at Market Square, and Newport Bus, one of whose green and yellowy-cream buses is entering the square.
Several decades ago, this area, part of which is now in use as a car park, was the site of Newport's bus station, before the present one was built a short distance south of here.
