Fenced-off NE end of High Street, Newport
In this late November 2012 view, metal fencing surrounds large holes in High Street during a major programme of gas pipe replacement in the city centre. Although closed for motor vehicles, High Street is open for pedestrians. There are other fenced-off areas further along High Street.

Semi-pedestrianised High Street, Newport
Vehicle access to this end of High Street is prevented by the two movable black and yellow metal posts. The grey metal posts are fixed. The movable posts can be lowered by a vehicle with the appropriate device, such as buses. The posts move back into place as soon as a vehicle has passed by, preventing a second vehicle from sneaking in.
