Newport: the King?s Hotel is closed
From high up the multi-storey car park opposite, this hotel does not look quite so forlorn as from ground level, since the boarded up windows are not so conspicuous. See Image for a picture of the hotel from ground level, taken in August 2009 when still operating.

Kings Court apartments, 6 High Street, Newport
Most of the former Kings Hotel has been converted to apartments in Kings Court. The west side of the former hotel has been converted to offices, Kings Chambers. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5328699 Viewed in March 2017. The Kings Hotel closed down in 2012. Its earlier names were the King's Head and the King's Arms.

Kings Court entrance, High Street, Newport
Viewed in January 2021. Most of the former Kings Hotel (which closed in 2012) has been converted to apartments (Kings Court). The west side of the former hotel has been converted to offices (Kings Chambers).

Fenced-off NE end of High Street, Newport
In this late November 2012 view, metal fencing surrounds large holes in High Street during a major programme of gas pipe replacement in the city centre. Although closed for motor vehicles, High Street is open for pedestrians. There are other fenced-off areas further along High Street.

Semi-pedestrianised High Street, Newport
Vehicle access to this end of High Street is prevented by the two movable black and yellow metal posts. The grey metal posts are fixed. The movable posts can be lowered by a vehicle with the appropriate device, such as buses. The posts move back into place as soon as a vehicle has passed by, preventing a second vehicle from sneaking in.

Offices (with parking) to let, High Street, Newport
The NE end of High Street viewed in late April 2016. The red notice is on the side wall of the former Kings Hotel (earlier the King's Head). After being derelict for some time, the building has been converted to offices and flats. A corner of the NCP High Street Car Park http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4928601 is on the right.
