West Mon bus 20, Bryn, Pontllanfraith ? 1966
It took some time to identify the location, which I only had written in my index as 'near Bargoed', particularly with the changes to the road layout as part of the rebuilding of the A472. The bus is on the old A472 at its junction with the A4049 at the Crown Hotel, this section of the road now being a cul-de-sac (Trem y Goron or Crown View). It is the prototype AEC Monocoach with Park Royal bodywork, new in 1953 as a demonstration vehicle. The Monocoach was a lightweight integral-bodied single deck bus developed by AEC in partnership with Park Royal. Fewer than 200 of the type were built as the more conventional Reliance model found more favour with operators. This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=2114547&displayclass=slide
