A4048 going towards Hollybush
The road down to the right goes down to Great Western Cottages. This road runs roughly parallel to the old Sirhowy Railway (now disused) and the Sirhowy river. Many of the rows of cottages are named after either railway themes, or mining topics. Several villages have terraces of houses called 'Railway Cottages', even though the railway is no longer there.

The approach to the Ancient Druid (Inn), Hollybush
A rather nondescript building that is said to be of pre Medieval origin.
It ceased being licensed premises when the nearby railway line closed.
It was the birthlace of James James who was the composer of the music of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, the Welsh national anthem.
For a nearby memorial see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2179706 .

Road to Ancient Druid Cottages, Hollybush
The road descends into the Sirhowy valley from the A4048 Newport Road. The cottages are near former licensed premises with a long history. Earliest references to it, centuries ago, were as the Ancient Druid Beer House. It was later renamed The Ancient Druid Inn. In its final years it was The Ancient Druid Hotel. Closure came after the ending of railway passenger services in the area in 1960.

Hollybush Chapel electricity substation, Hollybush
I took this photo for two main reasons.
Firstly, the juxtaposition of the Ancient Druid Cottages sign and a modern electricity substation.
Secondly, the identifier on the dark green box is Hollybush Chapel. The chapel no longer exists.
