The Taffy Tug at Bassaleg
Pathfinder Tours operated a railtour - The Taffy Tug - from Bristol to South Wales covering five branch lines (Ebbw Vale, Machen Quarry, Penarth, Cwmbargoed and Coryton), on which either passenger trains or locomotive-hauled trains are not normally seen. The tour was operated with two freight locomotives (Class 60s, nicknamed Tugs, Nos. 60063 and 60017) in top-and-tail formation.
Here the train passes over Bassaleg Viaduct on its journey to Machen Quarry.

The Thames-Taff Railtour at Bassaleg Viaduct
The railtour started from Paddington and ran to south Wales to traverse two usually freight-only branches - Machen Quarry and Cwmbargoed. Here the tour passes returns from Machen, headed by locomotive 66020.

Class 37 locomotive on Bassaleg Viaduct
Colas Rail class 37 No. 37219 is seen on track data recording duties (with extra, technical equipment mounted on its ends) on Bassaleg Viaduct, on its way to Machen Quarry. The viaduct is reputed to be the oldest railway viaduct still in regular operational use in the world.
