Early evening in Autumn produces tall shadows here. The road to the left, past the thatched house on the corner, leads to Knuston Hall and Rushden Town.

The present church dates from the thirteenth century and stands on the site of an earlier one built around 1100. The church is dedicated to St Katherine of Alexandria. The tower with spire is topped with a weather vane pierced in the form of a Katherine wheel and rises to 160 feet (http://www.rushdenheritage.co.uk/Villages/Irchester/irchester-intro.html Rushden Research).

Irchester: Church of St Katharine
This is the tower at the west end of the Grade I Listed Church of St Katharine. The tower is built of regular coursed limestone and ironstone ashlar, with an ashlar spire. Interestingly, old large scale Victorian Ordnance Survey maps from 1886, 1900 and 1901, currently available online, all clearly show the church as "St Catharine's".
